Drafty Barn Farm Rescue's
Rehabilitation and recovery page
If you have a horse in need of lay-over or rehabilitation, please contact us to see if we can be of help.
We do have references that we would be more than happy to share with anyone who requests them.
Look at this Diamond in the rough.  His name is Classic Order and he is an OTTB who was dumped at Sugarcreek.  This is absolutely one of the sweetest TB's one would ever hope to come in contact with.   Although he is beaten and battered and has cuts and scuffs everywhere, he will heal and become one of the most majestic horses in the world.  Such a shame he was headed to slaughter.  With the help of the FOB's, Classic Order is now safe and here at our facility awaiting his trip to Greencastle, In.  He is going into a Thoroughbred Retirement program where he will enjoy the remainder of his life.  Thank you TRF for stepping up for this beautiful kind eyed boy! We know you will adore him and make sure he receives the best of everything available.  You do fantastic work for the horses and it does show in your willingness to help even the diamonds in the rough who call upon you!
Meet Grandcircle, barn name: Prince.  He is a 7 yr old 17.2H TB found in the KP at Sugarcreek.  Even tho he never raced,  Suffolk Downs stepped up to help get this guy to safety.  Unfortunately there was much confusion surrounding who he actually was as his tattoo was quite hard to read.  Those in the pens and at ground zero try their best to be as accurate as possible, however sometimes mistakes are made and wrong horses are identified.  But we were eventually able to piece it all together and found quite a bit out about this guy.  He is said to be quite a gem and has worked over 3ft. fences as well as Foxhunted, low level dressage and much more.  For more information on Prince and his availability, please feel free to contact us.
UPDATE: Prince is scheduled to be evaluated on Friday Oct. 23.  We will be posting video and more pics from his evaluation shortly thereafter.
NOW IN LIFETIME FOSTER WITH MARIE
Thanks for everything you are offering this sweet guy!
This little 2 yr old mare was purchased privately by Marci.  The KB was bidding on her and Marci stepped up and outbid him to bring this sweet girl to safety.  She has been Rehomed and will be enjoying the rest of her days with a loving family of her own.
Meet another sweetheart of a gal who Marci outbid the KB's on. She is super quite and we believe quite possibly the product of bad economy and finances.  We have found no other reason she would have ended up at an auction being bid on by kill buyers.  My children (3yrs & 8 yrs,) have both ridden her and she is just as quiet as can be!
This little girl has found her forever home and they just adore her!
Another sweet older mare who the KB's were bidding on.  Marci also purchased her and she has also been rehomed and is living just outside Zanesville with her new family at a wonderful facility.  Her days are now going to be used for spoiling and an occasional trail ride or two.  What a lucky family and an even luckier little mare!
Another KB save from Marci!  This kind pony mare now has her own little girl to love and spoil her.   She left on Friady Oct. 9th for her forever home in the Stillwater area.  We hope you enjoy her as much as she is going to enjoy being with you!
**UPDATES ON A FEW SAVES**
Although purchasing each of these horses from the auction, kill buyer or abusive owner is a huge expense, most involved often tend to forget about the level of after care that each horse is in need of.  There are veterinary bills, routine dental visits, medications for illnesses contracted at the sale barns, farrier care etc.  Some are in need of much rehabilitation, while others only need the basics of groceries and someone to love them.  Those who are owner surrenders or donated into our program, usually are in need of various types of nutritional supplements as well as worming and vaccinations, in order to be considered well enough to rehome.  Others are in wonderful condition and more than ready to start their new lives in forever homes.
We hope that you will consider sponsoring one of our many horses in need, or make a reservation with our facility to participate in trail riding a rescue.  All procedes from our horseback riding are used to sustain our rescues!
This will help us to be able to continue helping those souls who need us!

**All of the below horses have been placed in wonderful adoptive homes.
This mare is Sweet Corona.  She was a Sugarcreek Save that we were involved with back in August of 2010.  She had sustained a major injury to her hind quarters and had a swollen left hind fetlock.  We pulled her for a fellow rescue. Her hind quarter injury healed nicely in their care. However, they could not afford to have her fetlock injury x-rayed to receive proper diagnosis and care. When we were contacted in early November and informed that they were closing the rescue and Corona was still available and still having issues with her fetlock, we spoke for her and hauled her back to DBFR for rehab and treatment of her injury.  She has gained her weight back as of now and is ready for a new forever home.  She has not shown any further signs of lameness on the ankle in the past 2 weeks.  She is broke to ride, but would be best suited for an experienced rider.  She can be a bit agressive with other horses in a herd situation until a pecking order is established.  Prefers a box stall over being tied. Fairly easy mare to handle on the lead.

Fee on Corona is $200.00 to an approved home only!  Email for adoption application.
